1st Year for Whitehouse Shrimp Farm The Shrimp Farm is located on the Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm property in Whitehouse, Ohio. A specially designed 1 acre pond was dug to raise fresh water Malaysian prawns (shrimp). There are approximately 20-25 shrimp farms in Ohio. This is the first year we have raised shrimp and the experience has been challenging, but fun. We have used consultants in the industry to advise us and have learned along the way. However, this is farming…and many things can affect the outcome. We initially started with 16,000 juvenile shrimp. They are fed a natural, protein-based fish food twice a day. Currently, we are giving them 40 pounds per day. A few days ago, we netted a few shrimp to check their size, and we were happy to see that they seem to be growing very well! At harvest time, we’re hoping to have 10-13 whole shrimp per pound. Our goal is to have 800-1000 total pounds of shrimp.
